A faster, larger hard drive. Keep your old hard drive and all the information on it. You can purchase a brand new hard drive that is faster and can hold more information. That way your same computer would have 2 hard drives. You’ll want to reinstall your operating system on the new hard drive, that way you can utilize its fast searching capabilities with your operating system.
A need for additional network routers and/or switches is required or performance will be unbearable. Show how many devices have been added to the network and why there is a need for more routers or switches to meet this growth in the coming year.
There is a lot of misinformation out there concerning Apples OSX’s operating system. For instance, many people believe that most software that runs on Windows can’t run on a Mac. In the past, this may have been true, but most major software programs, including Microsoft’s Office suite have been ported over to OSX. Even many game makers are now making Mac versions. Sometimes there may be a program that doesn’t have a large enough user base to make a Mac version. For those instances there are options. Window’s can be run as a virtual machine using programs like “Parallels” or you can install Windows in a dual boot environment using “Boot Camp”.
Macs also have a better quality rating. They crash less often than most Windows machines, but they still have their issues. The main reason why Macs are more stable than most Windows machines is because of one simple policy Apple has. Only they make the computer hardware so they have complete control. Windows doesn’t make the hardware, so it often has problems with 3rd party hardware drivers that are written poorly or stop working properly when updates are made to the Os.
Usually the first few weeks or even months into a new product or technology, there are constant problems and bugs. So avoid this testing period. In essence, any early adopters of technology amount to little more than just beta testers of the product. So wait until the kinks have been ironed out, and the prices drop, before rushing in!
A far more serious problem that can cause you computer to crash is hard disk errors. Data is stored in units on the hard disk called sectors. These sectors can become damaged or corrupt. Sometimes new hard disks can have faulty sectors due to the manufacturing process, but they are marked and given more space to make up for the damaged ones. If you try and access a file that is on one of these bad sectors, then your system will crash. Over time, your hard disk will get more bad sectors. What’s more is that if you bump your computer tower, and the head that reads the information on the disk makes contact with the disk itself, it can cause a massive scratch, which will result in serious data loss as well as system crashes.
Hardware problems are often more complicated. But it’s always worth taking a moment to open up your computer and use a brush or vacuum cleaner to carefully clean out all the dust that’s built up in side.
New laptop or workstation computers have to be in the plan this year. Perhaps there is a plan to replace a number of computers every year. Show what departments or employees will get new computers this year. Show how long they are in service and why the need to be replaced. Tell how long they are expected to last before being replaced. Show that new software might require new laptops or workstations. In many cases it makes sense to roll out new desktop hardware at the same time new software is introduced. It may make sense to replace the computer with new software on it then to upgrade just the software on an old computer.
